The beginning of a new community is always like a little sampling, planted in a small place, rooted with tiny roots and bloomed with new leaves. This was the start of Norbertine priory at Jamtara in the year 1960. The 1st batch of novitiate was initiated in the year 1962.
Striving to establish the kingdom of God, the canonry of Jamtara had one of the slow and steady growths. From the small tree, the canonry has grown into a sturdy tree giving shelter and shade to many. St. Norbert priory was elevated to canonry status on 15 Feb 1984. And on Oct 7, 2000, the priory was elevated to the status of St. Norbert Abbey Jamtara. Today the Abbey spread all throughout Jabalpur formed 7 different places which form Abbey chapter communities.
